RE: Your Fuel/Oil comments - please post here

$3.26 for reg unl gas here in NJ.
$3.63 to $3.69 in Duluth, MN. Cheaper elsewhere in MN. Duluth seems to be 5-10 cents a gallon more expensive. 99% of the stations are at $3.69 with Sam's and several stations cheaper ($3.63).

RE: Your Fuel/Oil comments - please post here

Do you understand how oil is formed?
Yes.
Could you give us a general explanation? Oh brother!
Just a note for anyone traveling through Oregon. Do anything you can to NOT buy gas in Roseburg area. Roseburg is about 90 North of Medford and about 75 miles south of Eugene, right on Interstate 5.
Our gas is aproximately 30 cents a gallon higher than other parts of the state. We recently took a 1,100 miles motorcycle ride to Eastern Oregon, then north and back down toward Roseburg. Out in the middle of nowhere Preminum gas was $3.99 a gallon. The highest we paid was $4.06. While back in Roseburg it remains at $4.29 to $4.39.
I write this because a few days ago someone wrote a letter to the editor and confirmed exactly what I said here. They too were on a roadtrip and noticed that gas was cheaper, way cheaper in most of the state.
So if you are traveling through Oregon on the I-5, gas up in Medford or try and make it to Eugene, do you best to bypass Roseburg. Even this tiny little one station town of Elkton has gas 30 cents cheaper than Roseburg. It's a clear case of being ripped off and this time it's someone other than the big oil companies.
Buffalo, Wy is the same...Cash price of $4.15. Non-cash $4.25. 50 miles east in Gillette the price is around $3.80. Also cheaper in Sheridan according to the guy I talked with.
BTW, we went through Roseburg earlier this month, but didn't buy gas because of the price.

Highway 26 over Togwotee pass

Highway 26 between Teton National Park and Dubois, WY has construction near the top of the pass (9,000+ feet). Good road on the east side compared to the west side.

RE: Route 2 From Glacier MT To Grand Forks ND

We are planning a trip from from Glacier to Coon Rapids MN next week. I'm thinking of Route 2 to Grand Forks as an alternative to I-94. Traveling in a '74 GMC. Have never done this trip, and would appreciate any comments from those who have.
Just did Highway 2 from Duluth, MN to West Glacier 6 weeks ago. It is in pretty good condition, except Havre, MT (my old, old home town) is repaving the main street. I like "2" as there is light traffic and there is only one pass to go over. Compared with I-94/I-90, Highway 2 is as flat as a ping-pong table.

RE: Small portable boat for family paddling around (PortaBote?)

Have had a 12' Porta-Bote for over 10 years. Use a 6hp Yamaha O/B. setup is a little slower in cooler weather due to the plastic being a little stiffer for placing the first seat. With more normal summer temps it only takes about 10 minutes to set up. It has been a good investment.

We've been traveling with our two cats (3 at one point)for a number of years in our motor home. When moving down the road, they sleep under the sofa. When we stop they are out on the dash checking out the local wild life.

RE: Dinghy Selection

When I get another dinghy, I will go with the Scion.
can an automatic Scion be towed 4 down?
bumpy
I don't know about their automatics. I am looking at the standard transmission. About all you have to do with the standard is be sure it is out of gear and the parking brake is off.
Subaru's with the 5 spd manual transmissions are towable 4 down with NO speed restrictions. Hook up, put the gearbox in neutral, the key in ACC position and go...

I don't think most parents nowadays teach their children much at all. They just let them grow up like wild animals.
I'm inclined to agree with this statement....:B

RE: RV sales might be down but camping is not down!

Myrtly Beach is a fairly short drive from MILLIONS of people. No surprise it is still packed.
Glacier National Park (where I was a week ago), on the other hand, is quite a drive for most folks. In a normal July, all the front range CG sites are full by 2:00pm daily. The week I was there only 2 CGs EVER filled.
Gas prices ARE making a difference for distant destination places.
We were also in Glacier about 3 weeks ago in the Apgar campground (West Glacier). 1/2 the sites were open.
But in Washington state parks around Wenatchee, all the reserved sites were booked for July and August. By some fluke, I managed to book a site for Monday - Wednesday at the Confluence state park.

RE: filling tank with $75 limit on CC

On our current trip I have been stopping when the gauge reaches 1/2 tank. At $4.08 to $4.27 a gallon I've had to swipe 2-3 times. Only once did I have to go in to pay. But then, before we left, I called my CC company and gave them the states we would be traveling through to prevent problems. I also told them the approximate dollar value of each transaction. So if the station attendant is not a happy camper, the DW takes the CC inside.

RE: I don't get it......

The owners of RV's that were 'stretching' and/or right at the end of their budget to go camping every year are the one's who are selling.
Those that live within their means and budget wisely....are not going to have to change their life style and run out and slap a For Sale sign on their toys.:B:B
Yup, that's right. We're in the second week of our 5-6 week trip from Minnesota to Washington/Oregon and back to Minnesota. Gas is around $4.30 a gallon in Wenatchee, WA. But I do fill the gas tank up when we reach 1/2 full. That means I only have to swipe the CC 2-3 times to fill the tank.:B Also called the CC company to warn them so our card wouldn't be "locked out."

RE: Monaco Plant Closings

I wish Monaco the best. They make a beautiful rig, always liked 'em. I understand they are soon to release top-shelf Class Cs. Let's hope for the best in all their endeavors.
Looks like they will be using the "Sprinter" chassis. It will be a 2009 model.
